Boat Day Report: It was a fun time and a big success. Many thanks to Heloise Shilstat, Angela Jackson and her staff, and all the other helpers for organizing a great day. In all, just over 100 people came out to try out a boat and get wet. Add to the good turnout a perfect weather day and you have the recipe for success.

New on the website: check out http://stoneswatershed.org for a link to infomation about Tier 2 high quality streams that have been identified in the Stones system. These are streams that are known to have "good water quality, important ecological values, valuable recreational uses, and outstanding scenery" according to the Tennessee Division of Water
Pollution Control.

Coming events:

Thursday, Aug. 17. Board and membership meeting, 6:30 p.m., Carriage Lane Reception House, 337 E. Burton St., Murfreesboro. All members are welcome and encouraged to attend.

Thursday, Aug. 24. Meeting to discuss a pilot vegetation project on the Murfreesboro greenway along Lytle Creek. A meeting on August 8th laid the groundwork for design of a project that will increase indigenous species while reducing invasive species and maintaining riparian vegetation. It is anticipated that the project will be done with volunteer labor. For more information call Randle Branch at 893-6992 or email at cedarbranchfarm@aol.com.

Saturday, Aug. 26. Dog Days on the Greenway. SRWA will again set up a booth to meet participants and talk about the value of keeping pet poop out of our rivers. The event runs from 9 to 11:30 a.m. at the Cannonsburg trailhead. If you can help out call Mayo at 890-2081 or email at mayo@stoneswatershed.org.

Saturday, Sept. 9 . Stream cleanup along Lytle Creek off Nickajack Trace. This morning event will be on dry land (unless we have one of our almost predictable Friday night toad-strangling thunderstorms). We will remove trash, move some log and brush debris that is near the stream and do some initial planning for a bank stabilization project. We may also try to
address some ATV trespassing problems on public land , in coordination with Murfreesboro Parks and Recreation. For more information or to let us know you're coming call Bob Higman at 893-9633, email him at bobhigman@comcast.net.
