News from Your Stones River
Watershed Association. January, 2007
Happy New Year to all. As we move into 2007 SRWA moves toward its
fourth anniversary, and it's shaping up to be a busy year already. Here
are a couple of coming attractions.
Saturday, January 20. Board and
membership planning retreat, 8:30 a.m. to about 1:30 p.m. We'll
meet at the offices of the greenway program of Murfreesboro Parks and
Recreation, 1526 W. College St. in Murfreesboro. That stretch of
College is also referred to as Old Nashville Highway. The office is in
a converted home on the right just before the General Bragg trailhead
on the greenway if you are driving north. The trailhead and the office
are also just south of the narrow railroad underpass. Everyone welcome.
A light lunch will be provided. Please let Mayo know if you plan to
attend: mayo@stoneswatershed.org or 890-2081.
Thursday, February 8. Murfreesboro
City Council will consider the long awaited Water Quality Protection
Area (WQPA) ordinance to set standards for riparian buffers
along streams affected by development. We anticipate that the part of
the meeting dealing with the WQPA will be between 7 and 8:30 p.m.
Several SRWA board members are planning to attend but we would love to
have additional members there.
Part of the business to be transacted on Saturday is to set a calendar
of river activities, programs, meetings, restoration projects and other
events for the year. We expect to conduct several hands-on, wet-feet
projects during March and April, and will be hoping to build a reliable
volunteer corps for future projects. Watch for an update soon and, of
course, you can always check our website: http://stoneswatershed.org.
