News From Your Stones River Watershed Association. July 2008.

Just a quick reminder that our monthly meeting begins tonight at 6 p.m. instead of 6:30. We will begin with a presentation by Doug Demosi and Elizabeth Emslie of the Rutherford County Planning Department about the process of creating a new comprehensive land use plan. If you care what Rutherford County will look like in ten or twenty years this would be a good meeting to make.

6 p.m., Carriage Lane Reception House, 337 E. Burton St., Murfreesboro.

Of course, we also have a strong agenda for our monthly business meeting that will follow.

Boat Day Report. It was another huge success thanks to a long list of people: everyone with our hosts, Murfreesboro Parks and Recreation and the Smyrna Stormwater Program, our skilled volunteers from the Tennessee Scenic Rivers Association, our corporate partner Dicks Sporting Goods and of course everyone from SRWA who pitched in. Special thanks to Jim Barden and Randle Branch for boat wrangling and to everyone who loaned a boat, including MTSU Outdoor Pursuits. We really can't do it without you.  We had approximately 350 participants at the two sites and everything ran pretty smoothly. We'll recap the event at our meeting tonight and start thinking about next year. This is a really fun event and would be a great way to get involved with SRWA. Watch for the call for volunteers for next year's event.

One other Boat Day operated on the same day, at Shelby Bottoms in Nashville. They reported about 75 participants, which was a good number for their site and a first year event. Kudos to Laura Alex of the Cumberland River Compact for hard work on that one and for helping coordinate all the events.

Oh, and did I mention Dicks Sporting Goods??? Next time you need some gear visit their store in the Avenues mall in Murfreesboro and let them know you appreciate the support.

Here are some photos from Chris Calatrello, TSRA volunteer at the Murfreesboro site.
